Professor Christian Gericke is a Consultant Neurologist with a special interest in Epilepsy who supports defendant and plaintiff claims relating to neurological disorders.
He has acted as an Independent Medical Expert for the High Court of Justice in England (King's Bench), the Supreme Courts in all Australian jurisdictions, Coroners, District and Family Courts. This builds on experience providing medico-legal advice for various court systems in Europe and the UK since qualifying as a neurologist in 1999, including giving expert evidence in court.
His unique expertise combining clinical neurology and public health medicine enables him to go beyond standard neurological advice, especially regarding causality in clinical negligence and regulatory standards claims. His special interests are complex epilepsy, cerebral palsy, hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, brain tumours, functional neurological disorders (FND), and neuroepidemiology, including life expectancy calculations.
He reads Medical Law in the LLM at the University of Melbourne, holds an Advanced Diploma in Medical Law from King’s Inns School of Law in Dublin, and is an American Board Certified Independent Medical Examiner (CIME). He has obtained the Cardiff University Bond Solon (CUBS) Civil and Criminal Expert Witness Certificates.
Prof Gericke provides expert reports for clinical negligence cases in the UK and can assess UK patients in Australia.
